Mathematics The main problem with science today, is that the only people that can understand it, are the mathematicians. However, it seems to me that there is a difference between a Mathematical Model and the Real World. Misconceptions I have fallen for one of these misconceptions! The idea that space is expanding, is in reality, only a mathematical model, which is used to simplify the mathematics which are involved in calculating the expansion of the Universe. Reality In reality, space does not expand, but it simplifies the mathematics to imagine that space is expanding. Now imagine that you want to explain this fact to a Journalist? I hope that you will be able to see how this confusion started. Mistakes We all make mistakes, and scientists are not immune. So my advice to everyone is, "Never accept anything to be the truth". You should always use your own judgement! Under review Two articles on the site are under review. Since I have fallen for the misconception that space is expanding, I will have to revise my theory of gravity. At the time of writing, I no longer believe in the existence of the Ether. The Theory of Everything It has been proven, by the mathematicians (of course) that there is no connection between Quantum Mechanics and Einstein's theory of Relativity. What is needed is a new theory to replace both of them. |
Right and Wrong The theory of Relativity has been proven to be correct beyond any shadow of doubt. Quantum mechanics seems to predict things quite precisely. However, since there is a conflict between these two theories, how can they both be right? Personally, I believe that the difference between right and wrong, depends upon which side of the fence you are looking from. For example, some people believe that an Execution is a just punishment, while others believe it is Murder. There is logic to both arguments, but which is right? Correct Thinking According to Kepler, a planet orbits a star. This means that the Sun is the centre of our Solar System. However, there is no reason other than simplicity, why the Earth shouldn't be regarded as the centre of the Solar System, the Universe, or anything else. In other words, it's another mathematical simplification! Kepler Imagine the difficulty of calculating the orbits of the planets, when you are located on one of those planets. It all looks so simple, after the extremely difficult task which Kepler performed. He had to start with the Earth located at the centre of the Solar System, and then realise that everything would simplify, by putting the Sun at the centre. Using the same reasoning It is quite possible to work out the orbits of the planets, whilst having the Earth at the centre of the Solar System. However, it is very much simpler to put the Sun at the centre. Relativity In my opinion, the theory of Relativity is not wrong, it is simply looking at reality from the wrong perspective. The same is probably true for Quantum Mechanics. So the way forward is to find the centre of reality, and look for a simple answer. Latest update 13 June 2008. |
